Contemporary life constantly presents us with new technological challenges.
More and more often, we ask ourselves — how do we separate reality from fiction and creation?
It is difficult to deny that concepts such as reality and authenticity are beginning to slip away from simple definitions.
Dominika Wiltos explores these elusive boundaries in her creative work. The artist combines figurative and abstract forms of expression, remaining faithful to the traditional technique of acrylic on canvas.
The virtual world and the human being are the central themes that ignite Wiltos’s artistic sensitivity.
At this early stage of her artistic journey, the artist simultaneously develops three painting series that focus on these themes.
Her point of departure is often the female body, captured in close-up.
Wiltos selects a fragment and sensually portrays the softness of lips, the delicacy of shoulders, and the subtle sensuality of a breast line.
Her paintings are built in multiple layers — she uses techniques of wiping and texturing, creating slightly blurred, almost “distorted” imagery that gives the works a dynamic character.
Wiltos’s paintings seem to exist in a state of becoming — suspended between formation and disappearance.
They may evoke old, time-worn photographs or images disrupted by digital interference — reminiscent of TV static or display errors.
The artist emphasizes the blurred line between what is real and what is virtual and transient.
It is precisely in this liminal space that modern humanity finds itself — filled with uncertainty and questions about the truth of perception and experience.
In the Unreal series (initiated in 2021), the artist nostalgically asks:
“What is real?”
This marks the beginning of her artistic reflection on authenticity and life in a world saturated with stimuli and often contradictory information.
In the Code series, binary sequences form visual structures.
Here too, the artist continues to explore the themes of human consciousness and corporeality in relation to the digital realm.
The digits 0 and 1 form binary code — the language of all digital systems, from processors and memory to hard drives.
In Wiltos’s paintings, just as in technology, codes become messages.
Rows of zeros and ones intertwine with imagery, forming familiar and frustrating system responses such as “Error,” “No Connection,” or “Not Found.”
The system message becomes a metaphor for human struggles, mistakes, and repetitive patterns.
The looping rhythm of numbers mirrors the repetition — and perhaps the monotony — of daily life.
The Reflect series presents Wiltos’s abstract compositions.
The artist remains loyal to a palette of grays, soft browns, and earthy tones.
The works reference landscapes, swirling clouds, and geometric structures — filled with lightness, air, and harmony rooted in symmetry.
There is also a degree of austerity, counterbalanced by the inclusion of 24-karat gold elements.
These golden accents introduce light and brilliance into the compositions.
Equally significant is the use of the ellipsis — a visual mark appearing in writing, mathematics, and digital systems.
In the Reflect series, it becomes a symbol of creating one’s own path.
Dominika Wiltos is a young artist who explores and experiments with boldness and imagination.
She delves into the complexity of the contemporary world and the human being who exists in a fragile relationship with constant change and the dynamic pace of reality.
By examining where the boundaries of the “real” end, she searches for common ground between the seemingly opposing realms of the tangible and the virtual.
